Quantum tinkerer policy on project participation#
Note
This document is meant primarily for the group members. See also the guest policy
The rules of how project participation and authorship works vary from group to group. They are an important component setting the group relationships and work efficiency.
This document is a rough guideline for how project participation works both for external and internal collaborations.
Use good judgement and talk with your group members, don’t keep secrets about what you are working on or intend to work on.
If the project is initiated inside the group, it has no owners that can restrict someone from joining: everyone is free to join any project.
Authorship and the order of authors is determined at the very end of the project, don’t put author names in drafts until everyone agrees.
Anybody who has contributed to the project beyond a certain minimal level is an author. Typo corrections or code review are obviously below the minimal level.
We welcome external collaboration, but we treat it with care. Please discuss with Michael or Anton before starting an external collaboration.
Motivation#
In practice everyone has their own project(s) to work and people don’t join projects too often. We (Michael and Anton) want to promote joint work where the group members don’t hesitate to ask for advice or for help and others don’t hesitate to help when they can. This policy is not intended as a legal document, but rather as what we consider a very reasonable guideline.
